Seems like a minor step backwards. After watching the evolution of Age of empires, through the empires series, that farming was slowly phased out as a boring aspect of rts's. Farms went from having to be re-tasked, and walked around, to simpler re-tasking and less traffic constraining, to unlimited food, and finally phased out in RaF altogether. Micromanagement is going to be tougher, and more time is going to be devoted to economy and building planning.
Its a step in the opposite direction, but which way is forward and which is backwards? It all depends on what you think of it.

AHH! I missed it coming out! Need to download!
EDIT: Having played it, I cannot fault much that Sails has said. (read I can't be bothered to write a big post ) I think I fell unconscious when Gayspy's logo came up, and I woke up in time to see the opening cinematics, which were very cool, apart from the bit when the persian and Spartan are fighting and instead of attacking each other they seemed to be intent on bludgeoning a hole in each others shield. I like the naval combat very much, a lot smoother than RaF's which used to get jammed when grappling. The traps are so much fun also. Overall, a nice looking game although the lack of a custom battle just made my jaw hit the floor.
More Speculation: Who will you play first, if you buy the game?
I will play the Egyptians. Moveable big crossbows, elephants, chariots and all purpose infantry FTW!

I've encountered some problems with this demo. This is what happened.
1) The image of the game appear and after a while, an error pops up. (click!)
2) I cliked OK, and another exception pops up. (click!)
3) Finally I got a classic Microsoft error. (click!]
Anyone knows what problem this is?

Nope, I dunno what happened there.
Don't you just love an Egyptian Shield wall?
One thing that stands out about this game is MICRO, in big capitals. It takes a lot of micro with your troops in battle, changing between their weapons. Also something occured to me, whilst I was doing a battle on the Egypt campaign. Flanking has become somewhat of an obselete manouvre, unless their troops at the back only have bows and not secondary weapons. I came across this when I was fighting a battle with two types of troops, One type mostly melee weapons and the other more long range type oriented. My melee were out front, having a heated battle, when another troops of enemy infantry jump out from behind me and take me in the rear. So i tried to divide my melee troops between the two forces, but it didnt work. So I thought "my archers are toast" and switched them to melee weapons, to take a few down with them. Not so. They destroyed the enemy troops, then turned to face the other ones, whilst I shook my head in disbelief and streched my feet up on the desk, allowing them free rein over the enemy troops.

Flanking is only obsolete if you equip warriors with secondary weapons. Its quite expensive to do so, and as such, most people won't equip all archers (but most will equip a few with secondary weapons). It costs an obscene amount, and they might see the gain as less than the loss of gold. Of course if you have salvaged equipment...

I always equip them with another weapon, as it gives them much more flexibility. It doesnt cost HUGE amounts more, and you end up with flexible, more expensive troops rather than cheap warriors armed only with a hand axe.

Maybe true, but it doesn't make them any stronger. If you never have any reason to switch them, its a waste of money. I personally am a fan of having a group of devoted units and then a group with secondary weapons. An idea to have it obvious what can switch is to have them use different weapons, such as using a sling instead of a bow to know that they have melee weapons as well. And an Axe instead of a sword (or whatever way you want it) to know that it can be a ranged unit as well.

It can make them stronger, just in different positions. A group of devoted units do their job as well, and are cheaper. But let's have an imginary battle. A person has 14 Kara warriors and I have 14 Kara warriors. 6 of his 14 warriors can switch weapons to triple bladed knives. I have 14 Karas that can all change their weapons to bows. So the lines move forward, and 6 of his kara warriors stay back and use their bows. 6 of my Karas stay back and use their bows. Now, bows do more damage than melee (or most of them) weapons, so the person which shoots more probably wins. So I, confident that my melee troops are holding, pull back 2 more Karas from the front line. His troops begin to soften, and I switch 4 of my karas back to hand. Overwhelmed on the front line, I hack a hole through to his archer karas, which fall after being destroyed by a force twice their number. Thats just one scenario in which flexibility wins.
On a side topic, i wonder whether HG will make another hevean for this game?

I'd love for them to, but don't they need support from the company or something?

Dr.Grip it sounds like you have a classic video card error. Does your video card support the latest pixel shaders.
on the microsoft error, they have to rub it in by telling you, in translation. Aww(awe.exe) darn it looks like you dont have the latest pixel shaders.

Hard to say. It might be, if Playlogic support it with patches unlike Midway who did nothing for this game.
EDIT: It's due for release in 9 days, 20/4/07. Gamespot has released a Final Hands-on , and I think I'm pre-ordering this.

I see. He was one of the people who used it, but somebody else discovered it. Irish found some cheats that work in Multiplayer though... He posted them on the forums so people could use them for single player, tried it on multiplayer, found out it worked then edited his posts lol.

OK cool. The first patch should be released by then so you won't even have to deal with Inaros
