Since I know a number of you have discussed rushing you know about having to waste buildings early on with only swordsmen (gah! where's my siege?). You ever noticed when you select a building to attack, a town center or barracks say, with a formation and only about 50% of the swordsmen attack. The others stand behind the first column or two for uhh... morale support?
"Right on Patrician! You show that mean old building who's the real Caesar on this battlefield!"
The only way, apparently, to effectively get all my units to attack a structure is to break their formation. After that they surrond the structure and start hacking it up. I find this also works well when trying to slay civs.
I agree though, formations lack control but without them the battle is usually over pretty darn quickly.
Hopefully 'the patch' resolves the pathing and control issues.
Add: I would also like to see RTW style formations.. however I doubt that will happen.
