Q: How much space does the game require for installation?
A: Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War requires approximately 3 GB of free hard drive space for installation.
Q: I am getting errors when trying to uninstall the game from Windows Add or Remove Programs control panel.
A: To correct this, you will need to re-run setup.exe from the Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War disc. This will clear up the error and you can uninstall and reinstall the game.
Q: I am getting a error during installation, "Error Code: -5009 : 0x8002802b". Q: I run Rise & Fall by double-clicking on the RiseAndFall.exe and it starts to run, but quits right away. Q: I am getting an installshield -5003 error. 1. Search for the InstallShield folder (by default, the full path is C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield). Q: What are the system requirements for Rise & Fall?? * Windows 2000/XP * 2.8 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor The following DirectX 9.0c video cards/chipsets are OFFICIALLY supported. This does not mean they will all run R&F flawlessly or equally well. Generally speaking, the faster the card, the more smoothly you will be able to play the game: * ATI X1900 series (NOTE: the laptop versions of these chipsets are NOT SUPPORTED!) Cards that we (HG staff) think should work well include these models:* GeForce 6600, 6600 GT, 6800, 6800 GS, 6800 GT, 6800 LE, 6800 Ultra, 6800 XT, GeForce 7800 series, ATI X700 PRO, X800 Series with the following extensions: XT, GT, GTO, PRO, SE, XL, XT PE, X1800 series and X1900 series. *Disclaimer: Before you purchase any video card, you are soley repsonsible for verifying that it will run R&F; -Rise & Fall supports wide screen modes/monitors. Q: Can I run the game on my system with an S3 video card? Q: I cannot get my game to work on my system with the SIS 530 onboard video chip. Q: Will the program work on a system with an Intel 82810/82815 or 82845/82865 onboard video card? Q: Will the SIS series of video cards work with the program? Q: How can I improve the performance of Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War? - Make sure you have no other programs running in the background. - The Game will run faster in lower resolutions, and with lower settings in the Video Options. Set your resolution lower (like 1024x768 or 800x600) and also check the Video Options and set those lower as well. - If your video card has less than 128 megs of RAM you should probably set your Texture Quality to Low. This will reduce the size of the textures stored on your video card and will allow your video card to hold more textures. This will increase your framerate but degrade visual quality a little. - If you still feel you're not getting a good frame rate (the game feels sluggish), click the Reset Defaults button and then Apply Changes. This will cause the game to do a check of your Computer and Video cards capabilities and make recommendations (Make sure to Apply Changes). - If after doing the above steps you are still experienceing sluggishness, set everything to Low (this will allow the game to run at it's fullest, but without alot of fancy bells and whistles). Rise & Fall uses TCP (33335) and UDP (33321) ports to communicate with other Computers. If you are experienceing problems connecting with other Computers you may need add settings to your Windows Firewall or external Router/Firewall. We have attempted to resolve this in our Game, but sometimes programs (like Windows Firewall, Norton Internet Security, et.al) restrict Internet Traffic (TCP and UDP) in an attempt to secure your computer. During Installation we have configured Windows Firewall to properly allow us to communicate, but if you reset defaults or made changes, you may have inadvertantly removed it. If you reinstall Rise & Fall we will set it for you again. If you are using another program or external device (like a Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, etc), consult your manual on how to forward ports (33335 and 33321) to your computer. There are a number of things to consider when playing network games like Rise and Fall. If you have tried but failed to play online, review these possible issues: If the gateway to your home network is a router, you have to forward the ports to your gaming PC. All router manufacturers provide details on how to do this. Generally, it's not difficult to do, and you only do it once. Look at the device documentation, or find the manual online at their web site, and/or If you have a cable modem (or dialup) you don't have to forward ports. R&F configures Windows firewall automatically (if you use it). If you reset defaults or made changes, you may have inadvertantly removed the proper configuration of Windows firewall. If you reinstall Rise & Fall, the setup process will set it for you again. If you use a 3rd party firewall (Zone Alarm et al) you need to specifically allow R&F.exe to act as a server. Certain anti-virus programs or "Internet Security" products have firewall features (worm-blocking, spyware blocking, etc.) that can interfere with online gaming/hosting, so you need to make sure they are properly configured or temporarily disabled. If you disable software, always do it through the application's control panel, not by killing the task in Task Manager. Rise & Fall uses TCP (33335) and UDP (33321) ports to communicate with other Computers. Unless there is some unknown exploit unintentionally coded into R&F, opening these ports You should Technical Support Midway will take every care to ensure that customers are treated in a professional manner. A: The S3 series of video cards do not support the functionality necessary to run the game and are not supported.
A: The SIS 530 onboard video chip is an older chip which does not have the memory or required functionality to run the program. This chip is no longer supported by SIS, and no new drivers are available for this video card. Note also that no Windows XP drivers are available for this chip.
A: The Intel 810/815 and 845/865 chipsets do not meet the minimum requirements to run the program. The program requires a card that supports hardware T&L (Transform and Lighting), and these Intel chipsets do not have the required DirectX functionality necessary to run the game.
A: The SiS series of video cards do not support the functionality required to run the program and are not supported. These are onboard chipset which use Shared Memory, and they do not support OpenGL or D3D functionality. The following SIS chipsets are affected: SiS 6326, 5597/5598, 530/620, 315, 550, 650, M650, 651, 740, 330, 661FX, M661FX/MX, 741, 760. Xabre 200, 400 and 600
