Yesterday I was playing a 4v4 online game (not a lan game, a common multiplayer game with gamespy instead).
Well teams were unbalanced so after a while I was overwhelmed with enemies and I had to resign.
After having seen the game stats I was coming back to the online lobby when suddenly my comp frozen. After a couple of minutes it restarted working but instead of leading me in the lobby I found myself in the main menu of the game.
I tried to connect the game again, all in vain, I couldn't join gamespy anymore. I quitted the game and I came back to the the desktop and I tried both my 2 web browser (firefox and Opera) but they in most times didn't work or they worked but taking ages to load a very light web page like google homepage...
So I checked my ADSL connection panel and there was nothing wrong: my comp was normally connected and there was no error messages.
With my phone I checked the telephone line but it worked fine.
I ran some antivirus and antispyware programas but I dind't find anything.
I checked the task manager and the only program running on my comp was my firewall (ZoneAlarm). I turned it off but again all in vain, nothing was solved.
I restarted the comp and because I still thought the firewall could be the cause of these prblems I disinstalled it and I try to install sygate firewall. But I couldn't because everytime I ran the installation file a window message appeared that said me that windows installer has been modified recently and it couldn't work. So I went in the Windows directory in my hardisk and I found a log files in which was reported that some Windows files have been updated exactly in the same minutes in which my comp frozen after the raf online game but this is impossible because I always keep the Windows updater disabled and I always update my OS manually.
Well, I tried disinstalling my internet connection and then reinstalling it but nope the windows installer didn't work.
So I went in the control panel and with the "restoration console" (I actuallly don't know if this is the right english name) I restored my OS with the configuration of one week ago and finally windows installer worked fine so I reistalled the connection and a new firewall and they worked fine too.

I would like to add that only raf and my firewall were running when this problem happened and I have never experienced such a problem since I get this "new" computer (so since june).
Can someone explain me what happened?
